My Artwork.
Still Life
As ever with still life, getting it set up can be the most time consuming and difficult. With so many options, the composition has to be interesting and of course, the lighting has to be correct. Capturing your own creation on canvass is quite a joy though.

Furry Friends
People
Painting a portrait can be quite a challenge. The complex structure of the human face with it's myriad of expressions is a test of skill. One of my favourites is the Baby in the Bathtub seen here. Painted from a photograph, it is now displayed proudly at the home of his Grandma & Grandad.

Places
One of my favourite aspects of painting is to capture the emotion of the landscape before me. The first seascape was painted from a photograph I took before the Fife Regatta from Largs at sunset in June 2022. The second seascape depicts a dredger on Holy Loch beguiled by mist at sunset. This was our view when moored at a nearby jetty. The cottage lane in the Highland village of Cromarty entices the viewer to explore further. What is around the corner I wonder?
Abstract
I confess that I love abstract painting. It was a new venture for me when I attended a course at the Glasgow School of Art. Each is created according to strict principles but the interpretation by viewers is quite varied and interesting. What do they convey to you?

Fun
What can I say - hopefully these paintings do what they say on the tin. Each of these made me smile. The Grumpy Sheep was painted as a companion to the Laid Back Giraffe, who seemed somewhat lonely on our our elder daughters sitting room wall. The Birds on a Branch are just a few of the cheeky chaps who visit our garden in summer.
Drama
What a difference colour can make to the mood of a scene. We've all experienced it - a favourite place rendered foreboding on a stormy day, or a meandering path brought to life in dappled sunshine. I'm sure you can re-imagine these views as the days and seasons change.
